The Contra Costa County Climate Leaders (4CL) program is a network assisting the county and its 19 cities to inform, support and encourage the measurement and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Through education and sharing of best practices we will ensure sustainable, healthy and livable cities.


Brentwood Accomplishments:

General Plan Update

  • General Plan Update – Summer 2014. Workshops and meetings are hosted regarding the update to encourage community input and public hearings with the Planning Commission and City Council will take place in the summer.

Climate Action Planning

  • Brentwood has not yet started Climate Action Planning


Water Conservation


  • Renovation of Downtown Brentwood includes plans for more accessible, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks

Open Space

  • Alongside a General Plan update, the City is working to produce a Land Use Alternatives Report which balances economic growth, future development, and protecting open spaces.
  • Started a Street Tree Program as a part of their Urban Forest Guidelines document to ensure the suitability and sustainability of trees for public planting, with an emphasis on diversity.
  • Held creek cleanup event with environmental education for residents
