What is a General Plan?

State law requires each city and county prepare and maintain a general plan. It serves as its “constitution” for decisions concerning land use planning and expresses a community’s long-term vision for its future development.

The Board of Supervisors is reviewing an update of its General Plan for the unincorporated areas. Other cities are also updating their general Plans. Click here to read.
